Is KX-P1180 a parallel printer?
If so....
If you tried connecting it via a parallel port on a mboard and it wasn't detected, the printer port must be enabled in the mboard's bios Setup, and the printer / LPT port mode in the bios MUST be set to EPP, ECP, or EPP/ECP mode.
Bios defaults often have the mode set to a lesser mode.
And you must use a IEEE1284 compliant printer cable, or at least one that has greater (fatter) gauge (lower number) individual wires.
Usually EPP mode works fine. ECP mode requires there be an available DMA channel - sometimes it's not available - sometimes you can select from more than one DMA channel in the bios when you select ECP or EPP/ECP mode.
If you connect it to a PCI parallel port card, they are always at least EPP capable, if not ECP capable too.
